Dentistry

Individuals with complex dental problems can receive treatment from our dentists specially trained in Prosthetics. This program is ideal for patients who have complicated needs for crowns, bridges and dentures.

Crowns

A crown covers (or «caps») a tooth to restore it to its normal shape and size, strengthening and improving the appearance of the tooth. Crowns are necessary when a tooth is generally broken down and when fillings won't solve the problem. If a tooth is cracked, a crown holds the tooth together to seal the cracks so the damage doesn't get worse. Crowns are also used to support a large filling when there isn't enough of the tooth remaining, as well as to attach a bridge, protect weak teeth from fracturing, restore fractured teeth, or cover badly shaped or discolored teeth.

Bridges

A bridge is a dental appliance that replaces one or more natural missing teeth, thereby «bridging» the space between two teeth. Fixed bridges are cemented into place next to the «abutment» teeth—the teeth on either side of the space (or «span»). Unlike removable partial dentures, fixed bridges cannot be taken out of the mouth by the patient. A fixed bridge is a device that typically consists of three units: a pontic (false tooth) fused between two crowns that are cemented onto the abutment teeth.

Dentures

A denture is a removable replacement for missing teeth and adjacent tissues. It is made of acrylic resin, sometimes in combination with various metals. A complete denture replaces all the teeth, while a partial denture fills in the spaces created by missing teeth and prevents other teeth from changing position. Complete dentures are either «conventional» or «immediate.» A conventional denture is placed in the mouth about a month after all the teeth are removed, to allow for proper healing, whereas an immediate denture is placed as soon as the teeth are removed. The drawback of an immediate denture is that it may require more adjustments after the healing has taken place. Candidates for complete dentures have lost most or all of their teeth. A partial denture is suitable for those who have some natural teeth remaining. A denture improves chewing ability and speech, and provides support for facial muscles. It greatly enhances the patient’s facial appearance and smile.
